Students travel to Washington, DC to experience government in action as informed citizens. The Close Up mission is to inspire young people to find their unique voice and help them develop the skills and awareness they need to be engaged citizens for life.

The Mesa Academy for Advanced Studies, part of the Mesa Public Schools system, has received official authorization to offer the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) to support our motto, "Rigor and Challenge in the Classroom." The International Baccalaureate (IB) program helps prepare students for life in the 21st century and is designed to help students become life-long learners who understand how to navigate successfully through an ever-changing and increasingly interrelated world.

The National Academic League fosters amicable & intense academic athletic competition. Each junior high in Mesa Public Schools (MPS) has an NAL team. We will be competing against eight other teams throughout Mesa. The district championship team will then have the honor of representing the city of Mesa and the state of Arizona in the national tournament held at ASU via video conferencing.

The goal of students taking part in Service Learning is to earn at least 50 service hours by the end of 8th grade. This will earn them recognition and a Silver Service Award Certificate. Students can participate in activities to count towards their Service Learning hours through Option A and Option B.
